Tow cups of friendship

استاد كلاس فلسفه در مقابل شاگردان ايستاده بود و چندچيز هم در مقابلش روي ميز قرار داشت. وقتي كلاس شروع شد، او بدون اين كه حرفي بزند،يك شيشه بزرگ و خالي مايونز را برداشت و آن را با توپهاي گلف پر كرد، بعد از شاگردان پرسيد كه آيا به نظر آنها شيشه پر شده است؟گفتند پر شده است.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the student if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.

بعد استاد يك جعبه سنگريزه درآورد و آنها را داخل شيشه ريخت. شيشه را آهسته تكان داد. سنگريزه ها در فضاهاي خالي ميان توپ ها قرار گرفتند. بعد دوباره از شاگردان پرسيد كه آيا به نظر آنها شيشه پر شده است؟ گفتند پر شده است.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full? They agreed it was.

استاد سپس يك جعبه شن درآورد و آنها را هم توي شيشه ريخت.البته شنها همه فضاهاي خالي را پر كردند. بار ديگر از شاگردان پرسيد كه آيا به نظر آنها شيشه پر شده است؟ شاگردان متفق القول گفتند:"بله"
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up every thing else. He asked once more if the
jar was full? The students responded with an unanimous "yes"

سپس استاد دو فنجان قهوه از زير ميز درآورد آنها را تماماً در شيشه ريخت. در نتيجه فضاهاي خالي ميان شن ها هم پر شد. شاگردان خنديدند.
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

وقتي خنده تمام شد، استاد گفت:‹‹حالا از شما مي خواهم كه اين شيشه را به مثابه زندگي خودتان بدانيد.توپهاي گلف موضوعات مهم زندگي شما هستند:خدا،خانواده،فرزندان،سلامتي،دوستان و روابط عاطفي مورد علاقه تان موضوعاتي كه اگر همه چيزهاي ديگر از دست بروند و فقط آنها بمانند، هنوز زندگي تان پر است.››
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represent your life. Important things-God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passion-things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full."
سنگريزه ها موضوعات مهم ديگر هستند، مانند كار، خانه و اتومبيل تان. شن ها موضوعات كم اهميت تر بعدي هستند. اگر اول سنگريزه ها را داخل شيشه بريزيد،ديگر جايي براي شن ها يا توپ هاي گلف باقي نمي ماند.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else-the small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first" he continued," there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls."

زندگي هم همينطور است. اگر همه وقت و انرژي تان را صرف موضوعات كم اهميت كنيد، هرگز براي چيزهايي كه برايتان اهميت دارند، فرصت نخواهيد داشت.
The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

به چيزهايي كه براي خوشبختي تان ضرورت محسوب مي شوند توجه كنيد. با فرزندتان بازي كنيد. براي معاينات پزشكي تان وقت صرف كنيد.دوستان تان را به شام دعوت كنيد. دوباره به هجده سالگي برگرديد.
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Invite your friends to dinner. Play another 18.

هميشه براي تميز كردن خانه و تعمير وسايل مصرفي وقت خواهد بود. پيش از همه حواس تان به توپ هاي گلف باشد، يعني چيزهايي كه واقعاً اهميت دارند. اولويتها را مشخص كنيد، باقي شن هستند.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposable. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

يكي از شاگردان دستش را بلند كرد و گفت:"قهوه در اين بين نشان دهنده چه چيز است؟" استاد لبخند زد و گفت:"خوشحالم كه سوال كرديد: اين فقظ نشان مي دهد كه هر قدر هم زندگي تان به ظاهر پر باشد ولي هميشه براي صرف يك فنجان قهوه با دوستان وقت هست."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented the professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend
